This year’s Make Your Own Havaianas roared the 90’s – #flashbackfriday it is!
Every summer Havaianas holds an event that allows you to customize your own pair of flip flops and for some reason, my schedule always conflicts with the dates every time! I was excited that I was finally able to go this year and what made me more excited about it was the theme – the 90’s! The 90’s fashion trends are currently on the rage right now and I couldn’t be happier because I’m a 90’s kid myself and being able to go to an event that incorporates this era makes me so excited since it reminded me much of my childhood.
There’s something about personalized items that makes me so engrossed with it – probably because this is where I am able to showcase what I am through designs and patterns. Being able to call it your own and being able to have a touch of your “own” makes you feel special, so I made sure that I created a design that I would absolutely love to wear.
Of course, I picked blue as my base because it’s my favorite color. Come to think of it, many of my personalized items are in blue if not pink or white lol. Basically, you don’t exactly do the dirty work since there are volunteers who assemble the pairs for you. Pick a sole, pick a strap, and then finish it with pins if you wish. T
There are two types of slippers and straps though, the top and the slim. The top has a narrower width than the slim, as the name of the latter suggests. The same applies to the case of the soles – tops’ are thicker than the slim’s. Unfortunately, you cannot mix top straps with slim soles and slim straps and top soles. Even if that was the case, I still had difficulty assembling my pair since there were lots of colors to choose from and I was indecidive with what I wanted. Luckily, Julia, who helped us assemble our pairs was a good conversationalist and gave good suggestions to what would look best with our pair (she’s an old friend of ours as well).
There was also a commemorative pair where the sole designs are from this year’s theme, the 90’s – and you could also pick between three straps specifically for those commemorative pairs.
This ‘checklist’ served as our basis in choosing designs and colors, as well as the selection of pins! The pins gave the personal touch to my pair as I chose two blue studs and a stereo and TV, two perfect icons that reminded me of my childhood!
These are our pairs – my best friend Angela’s on the left, and mine on the right! What do you guys think?:)
By the way, did you know that this outfit was styled by my long time nanny, Yaya Julie? I’m so happy because this outfit won Best Dressed at the event! Hihi (thanks, Havaianas!)
MYOH is an event I’d love to attend again next year. Cheers to the 90’s!
